So, why am I not working in an office, as an architect?
I have always been deeply fond of Oscar Wilde, but did not come across this quote until very recently and I find it a great example of serendipity.
Having studied architecture and worked on it for about 9 years, I always thought that working as an architect was the thing I was destined to do. Of course, I have been writing and drawing since I was really really young, but that is not a "real job", is it?
With the economic crisis spreading through Europe, architecture is one of the first sectors that got hit hard, as it is considered a "luxury item" within the field of construction. So, when I started looking for "real" jobs (after having completed three internships) and saw that the only thing available was very few under payed internships with no prospect of contract renewal, I thought I had nothing to lose. I could chase my dream and try to survive, doing the things that I love.
Creating my own things (articles, short stories, zines) and helping other creative people present their work in the best way possible (layout, illustration, editing) helps me keep a great balance and fills me with inspiration.
